Anderhalf jaar nadat ze In Rainbows op de wereld los lieten, is Radiohead opnieuw de studio ingedoken. Bassist Collin Greenwood was alvast in zijn nopjes.
"It was very noisy and chaotic and really fun", vertrouwde Collin Greenwood een BBC-reporter toe. Alles is echter nog in een zeer pril stadium: "It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we're just looking at all the bits and thinking what’s next?" Producer van dienst is naar goede gewoonte Nigel Godrich, die als geen ander vertrouwd is met de muziek van het tegendraadse vijftal: “Nigel has the ability to make everything sound vaguely plausible. He can take anything, whether it is an old hi-fi unit or four or five people in a band, and he'll try and make it work one way or another. I totally love and respect him for that."
Of het gezelschap de laptops gaat bovenhalen om blieps en loops te voorschijn te toveren of vooral aan de snaren gaat pulken, deelde Greenwood niet mee. Met In Rainbows en Hail To The Thief in het achterhoofd hopen we alvast dat ze beide werelden weer even geslaagd doen samensmelten. Laten we toch niet te vroeg juichen: het zal immers ongetwijfeld nog eventjes duren voordat ons perfectionistisch gezelschap “everything in its right place” zal hebben.
