Binnenkort verschijnt The Theory of Everything in de bioscopen, de biopic over Stephen Hawking. Componist Jóhann Jóhannsson stond in voor de soundtrack.
Jóhannsson is voor filmfanaten geen onbekende. Zo schreef hij vorig jaar al de soundtrack voor Prisoners. De muziek die hij componeerde voor The Theory of Everything, geregisseerd door James Marsh, wordt door Jóhannsson op veelbelovende toon omschreven: “It’s a film about an astrophysicist, but it’s in essence a love story. The music stems in a way from the tension between Hawking the man and Hawking the scientist”. Jóhannsson blijkt daarbij vooral om persoonlijke redenen aangesproken door het project: “I’m a big fan of James as director – ever since I saw Man on Wire years ago – and I have also always been fascinated by Stephen Hawking, both as a writer and theorist as well as a human being. I approached the music very much on emotional terms.”
Het album met de filmscore verschijnt op 4 november, op cd en digitaal. Ook een LP-versie staat nog op de planning. De film zelf komt in januari 2015 in de zalen.
